•  NEW PREACHING RESOURCE:    LITURGICAL YEAR   “C”

    Dear Preachers:
In anticipation of our next liturgical year (C) which, as you know, begins in Advent, I have just compiled a CD of  past “First Impressions.”  The CD contains two reflections for almost all the Sundays and major feasts of the year.  In addition, there are helpful essays for preaching during the liturgical seasons (Advent, Lent, the Triduum, etc.), ten book reviews and essays on various aspects of preaching. The files are in three formats (Microsoft Word, WordPerfect and Adobe Acrobat Reader) so you should have no trouble opening them on your computer.

It is a bit early to think of Christmas gifts, though not if you or someone you know is part of a parish staff. They usually start planning in the Fall. This collection will make an appropriate gift for preachers, RCIA facilitators, lectionary-based scripture groups—or anyone who wants to prepare for Sunday liturgy by reflecting on the scriptures.

Each CD costs $25 (which includes postage to any location in the world) and there are two ways to purchase. As an "End-of-Year" bonus... orders shipped before December 1st, 2006 will include both liturgical years - B and C.

     *****************************

The Doctor of Ministry in Preaching forms master preachers who have an advanced understanding of the ministry of preaching and can integrate it with biblical, historical, theological and pastoral disciplines. Students develop their own theology of preaching through coursework, discussion, peer evaluation and regular practice.

Aquinas Institute's Doctor of Ministry in Preaching is designed to enable students to deepen their biblical, theological, liturgical, historical and homiletic knowledge and to develop communication skills for advanced professional competency in preaching and homiletics. Doctoral level excellence in preaching is characterized by the student's ability to integrate an operative theology of preaching with sound biblical, congregational and cultural exegesis and contemporary homiletic and liturgical theory.

Can I work and go to school at the same time?
In response to the needs of active ministers, Aquinas began offering its successful D.Min. program in a revised, internet-based format. Students are able to take courses at Aquinas while maintaining their full-time preaching positions. Each of the six required core courses is structured as a four-month study with three periods of direct internet or seminar interaction as a learning community:

    • A two-week pre-study period conducted over the internet
    • An intensive, five-day, Monday-to-Friday seminar in St. Louis
    • A two-week post-study period conducted over the internet

What kinds of ministry does the program provide formation for?

    • Full-time preachers in parish, retreat or spiritual renewal settings
    • Promoters of preaching in pastoral settings (e.g., directors of continuing formation of clergy for a diocese, synod or those working with permanent deacons)
    • Skilled practitioners of preaching prepared to teach graduate homiletics courses

A description of the program's content is available and may be printed out for future reference. Contact Jared Ainsworth-Bryson, Director of Admissions, for additional information. Applications are being accepted. Applications will close and all materials must be received in full by February 15, 2006. All applications will be reviewed as a group during March 2006. Cohort selection will be announced to applicants by April 10, 2006.
