Fr. James Linus Dolan, O.P., brother of Edward Dolan and cousin of Sr. Mary Jane Holden, was born August 20, 1933 and died in Lima, Peru April 20, 2018. He is preceded in death by his parents, Kelly Mary Agnes Cranston and Edward Daniel Dolan.
In August 1953, Linus Dolan joined the Province of St. Joseph making first vows Aug. 16, 1954 and solemn vows Aug 16, 1958. He was ordained to the Priesthood June 16, 1960 in Washington, D.C.
In 1961, Linus’ first assignment was as a teacher at Providence College in Rhode Island. After a year in Rhode Island, Linus was assigned to Chimbote, Peru where besides being a missionary he served for a number of years as the Coordinator for Social Justice for the Diocese of Peru. In 1994, Linus moved to Lima, Peru. In Lima, Padre Lino, as he was known in Peru, would wear many hats, including Prior Provincial and Student Master for the St. John the Baptist Province of Peru. He would also serve as prior of houses and syndic, all while continuing to do his missionary work. He will be remembered for giving of himself to the people in Peru.
The visitation was held April 21, 2018 at Martin de Porres Chapel, St. Dominic Priory, Lima. The funeral was April 22, at St. Dominic Church, with burial at El Angel Cemetery.
