The 1216 Annual Drive
In the year 1216 a young Spaniard priest, Dominic Guzman, founded the Order of Preachers. It was a humble endeavor on Dominic's part, born out of a great love for God, compassion for humanity, and an intense desire to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the salvation of souls. From the very beginning, Dominic called his followers to a life dependent on God's graces, the work of their hands and the generosity of those they serve.
The 1216 Annual Fund Campaign
800 years later the 135 priests and brothers of our Province continue the mission of St. Dominic throughout the Southern United States. In order to preach the Gospel to God's people, we must continually meet the expenses of our (1) ministries, (2) the education of our 14 seminarians preparing priesthood or ministry as a lay brother, and (3) the care of our beloved elderly friars.
The 1216 Campaign, our annual fund, was developed to meet these three essential priorities. Thus, once a year, we friars of the Southern Province return to our mendicant roots and humbly ask our friends, family and benefactors like you to join us in our ministry by making a donation to the Province. We ask only that you give what your means allow, and that you include the friars of the Southern Province in your prayers. We will continue to remember you regularly in our prayers, Masses and good works.
