A Young Province with Big Dreams

Thank you for considering the Southern Dominican Province for your charitable giving. Founded in 1980 under the patronage of St. Martin de Porres, ours is the youngest Dominican province in North America. As a result, we do not have the significant sources of endowment or funding afforded some of the more established Provinces. However, our limited financial resources have not dampened our vision for expanding the Dominican presence, spirituality and preaching throughout the Southern United States. Like our founder St. Dominic de Guzman, we recognize our dependance on God's loving providence and on the generosity of donors like yourself. Through many means, great and small, our donors make possible our ability to continue our Dominican preaching and ministry.

You Can Make a Big Difference

Our friars give thanks on a daily basis for donors like you who make our life and ministries possible. Rest assured we place the highest value on our stewardship, accountability, management and distribution of your financial gift. Your trust and generosity demand nothing less. The spiritual and financial support your provide will directly impact two pivotal concerns:

  1. Education of Our Seminarians: God has blessed our Province with a steady stream of young vocations. We currently have over 15 seminarians in formation. Dominican formation is the initial period of a Dominican's life. It takes between 5 and 6 years to form a young man to meet the needs of the Church and prepare him for ordination. Forming young men to take on the tasks, responsibilities and the ministries of the province and the Church is one of our greatest responsibilities and challenges. With over 14 men information and a 6-year period of formation our Province depends on financial assistance to help us prepare these men for ministry in the Church. Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, our Dominican seminarians continue to receive the educational, pastoral, and spiritual education necessary to meet the needs of our continually growing Church.
  2. Caring for Elderly and Infirm Friars: We often joke that Dominicans never retire, they just begin another ministry. In fact a large number of our friars in their 70s often continue to preach and minister full-time. At the same time, some of elderly friars reach a point where they can no longer provide the public ministry they love so dearly.  Throughout the earlier part of their Dominican life they dedicated themselves in faithful service to building up the kingdom of God and ministered in countless ways to the faithful. Our province is dedicated to providing these beloved friars with the best possible health care and quality of life. With financial assistance from friends and benefactors like yourself, we are able to provide our elderly brothers with the best possible health care and quality of life.
