Fr. Bruno, the 87th Master of the Order, with Pope Francis.

From its institution in the year 1216, the Order of Preachers, has had the sole mission of “preaching and the salvation of souls.”  St. Dominic, as a lover of poverty and the apostolic life, walked whenever he traveled and preached the Good News to whomever he encountered.  He promoted mendicancy (voluntary poverty and begging) and itinerancy (freedom to travel wherever needed by the Church) as the vehicles for the preaching of the Gospel.

The Order of Preachers (the Dominicans) is a religious order in the Roman Catholic Church made up of friars, nuns, sisters, and laity who continue this vibrant 800 year tradition.

Beginning November 7, 2015 – January 21, 2017, the Dominican Province of Saint Martin de Porres, along with the Order of Preachers around the world, will celebrate the 800th anniversary (or Jubilee) of the approbation of the Order by Pope Honorius III in 1216.  Please join us in this joyous celebration.
