Dear Friends of the Dominicans,
St. Dominic, St. Catherine, St. Martin de Porres, along with all our great Dominican saints, were well known for their great compassion. They were all very close to the suffering and the sorrowful.
I want you to know that all the friars of the Southern Province are keenly aware of the suffering of all those impacted by the terrible devastation of Hurricane Harvey in Texas. Thousands of people have lost their lives, their homes and businesses, and had to be evacuated to safe places. The suffering has been terrible.
I am grateful that all of the friars in the area are safe. Thank God that Holy Rosary Church and Priory was not damaged by the flood waters. I hope you are all safe and were spared damage to your homes and places of work as well.
I want you to know that the thoughts and prayers of all the friars of the Southern Province are with all who are suffering due to Harvey. I am asking all the members of the Province to observe September 8, the Feast of the Nativity of Mary, as a special day of prayer for victims of Hurricane Harvey. Please join us in prayer on that day.
The friars also pray for the first responders and volunteers who are assisting those in need. We pray for the success of all the recovery efforts in Southeast Texas.
I am most grateful for the great generosity of all of our benefactors in the greater Houston area. The friars consider you an essential part of our extended Dominican family. As you support us with your prayers, I hope that we will support you in our prayers at this time.
May God bless you all, through the intercession of Our Lady of Sorrows, St. Dominic, St. Catherine, St. Martin, and all our Dominican Saints.
Fr. Tom Condon, OP
