The Lord is Kind and Merciful

[Mi 7:14-15, 18-20 / Psalm 103 / Luke 15:1-3, 11-32]

Although forgiveness is not one of the Ten Commandments, mercy and compassion are prominent themes of Scripture. In today’s Gospel story of the Prodigal Son, Jesus relates a powerful parable of forgiveness. The father is willing to forgive his wayward son even though he has wasted his inheritance. The second son who has remained faithful at his father’s side reacts in anger and jealousy. Who receives forgiveness and who needs to be forgiven in this story? Which character do you more identify with,-the father, the unfaithful son, or the jealous one? Pope Francis reminds us: “GOD NEVER TIRES OF FORGIVING.”
